1978, in the midst of the quartz crisis, Audemars Piguet introduced the world's thinnest perpetual calendar with the reference 5548. The movement, measuring at an impressive 3.95mm thin, based on the Cal. 2120 with a perpetual calendar module developed by Dubois Depraz.

The 5558, is simply the skeletonised version of the 5548, has a spectacular visual showing the expression of the highest level of watchmaking, showcasing its high level of finish and decoration of the complex mechanism of the perpetual calendar movement that can be seen from the dial side and the back.

The case is classically sized at 36mm with an impressive 7mm thickness. It is characterised with a multiple step bezel with short and curved down lugs making it fits on the wrist nicely.
