The Gronefeld brothers, Tim & Bart Gronefeld , are thirds generation watchmaker from the town of Oldenzaal in the Netherlands. After undergoing their studies, training and professional experience in Switzerland, they began making their now watches under their own name in 2008.
In 2016, Gronefeld introduced a simple time only with a highly complex Remontoire d’Egalite. . It was inspired from a church clock with a built in remontoire, in the village of Asten, that their father and grandfather have been responsible for keeping running.
The 39.5mm case, despite its classic appearances, is very complex with partially concave bezel and beautifully carved multiple step lugs.
This Hodinkee Limited Edition has a special three-step salmon color dial with a matte-frosted finish and Arabic numerals. While the regular 1941 Remontoire features an exposed speed governor at nine o'clock, this one was is hidden underneath the dial making it much more understated. It sounded simple but in order to do this, Gronefeld had to reengineer some of the parts to finally be able to conceal it underneath the dial.
On the back the Cal. G-05 always stands out with its spectacular architecture and finish. The bridges are made of stainless steel and are hand-beveled and polished, while the center of each bridge is micro blasted. The screw holes are polished on the inside and the screw heads are mirror polished.
Only 12 pieces of the Hodinkee Edition were made and it is part of the total of 188 pieces Gronefeld 1941 Remontoire ever made.
