In 2021 Grand Seiko introduced three USA Limited Edition manual winding timepieces inspired by Japan’s Genbi Valley, a lush green area in the Iwate Prefecture. Each were made as 140 piece Limited Edition.
The three references share an identical case design, that measures at 37.3mm in diameter with 11.6mm thickness. The case design was inspired by the first Grand Seiko from the 60s. It features a box-sapphire crystal that resembles the plexiglass crystal of the vintage Grand Seiko.
The dials are inspired by a Japanese painting method called Kirazuri, a technique that involves adding glittering flakes of mica to a print resulting a subtle yet it has a dynamic glittering effect. And the SBGW273 has a light green dial with a contrasting blued second hand.
The watch is powered by the Cal. 9S64 Hand Wound movement with 72 hour power reserve. It’s not only beautifully finished but also robust.
