Sold under Gross Margin Scheme
Founded in 2004 by Robert Greubel and Stephen Forsey, Greubel Forsey is well known for its extravagantly designed watches with complication to achieve chronometric performance, mostly with their inclined tourbillon.
In 2019 for the first time Greubel Forsey ventured into the world of sports watch, with their GMT Sport. It features a brand new case that is light weight with ergonomic design and a 100 meters water resistance.
The Double Balancier Convexe Black Carbon is one of the latest iteration of the series that first came out in 2022. It now measures at 42.5mm, 1mm smaller than the original model, with a 14.35mm thickness.
The main part of the case, main plate and main bridge are all made of carbon. And due to the curvature of the design, they needed eight times the pressure normally used for shaped carbon cases at 16 tonnes per square centimeter. Very thin layers of carbon were used to create a more tightly packed case with fibers oriented to match the curvature.
What stands out on this watch is obviously the three-dimensional, curved profile that showcases the movement in its full glory. It has the two balance wheel inclined at 30-degree angle from the dial to enhance precision by counteracting gravity’s effect and average any timing errors using a spherical differential mechanism.
This mechanism takes the best running averages in four minutes sequences to optimize precision. It also functions as a remontoire d’egalite that also can be seen from the back of the watch.
The hands are noticeably curved following the contour of the case. And on top of that it has a sub-second and power reserve indicator on the dial side.
This particular version is a 30 piece Limited Edition made for the Japanese market sold by a retailer of Greubel Forsey in Japan, Yoshida in Tokyo.
