Patek Philippe is always synonymous with complications, and one of the most notable one is the Perpetual Calendar. In 2021, Patek Philippe introduced a brand new Perpetual Calendar watch with a brand new movement built from the ground up.
The idea of the watch came from the “Linear” perpetual calendar pocket watches from the 1950s. It got its nickname from the calendar display that is fitted in a single horizontal window under 12 o’clock, making it really simple and easy to read the calendar.
The design of the case is very familiar as it’s taken from the iconic Perpetual Calendar reference 3448 with sharp angles and straight lines on the bezel and lugs. It is also similar to the reference 5235 Annual Calendar Regulator. It measures at a contemporary 41.3mm diameter with 11mm height in Platinum.
The dial is a graduated blue color with a vertical satin finish on the main portion of the dial and a slightly lighter shade of blue on the minute track and the moon phase indicator accompanied with white gold applied hour markers.
The 5236P is powered by the Cal. 31-260 PS QL with a freshly designed movement architecture that is consistent in some of the newer Patek Philippe movement. It carries an incredible total of 503 parts with an off-centre Platinum micro-rotor.
