In the world of jewelry making, Cartier is known as the King of Jewelers and the Jeweler of Kings. In the world of watchmaking Cartier is known as the King of Shapes. It all started in 1904 when Louis Cartier created one of if not the earliest wristwatch in the history of modern watchmaking, the Santos Dumont. It was specially designed for Alberto Santos-Dumont, a pioneer in the aviation world, who wanted to be able to read the time while controlling his airplane. It was then commercialized in 1911 and has since become an icon of the brand.
The Santos Dumont “Les Flaneurs” was an NSO project that began in 2021, created for the “Les Flaneurs”, a community of Cartier watch enthusiasts that includes many renowned collectors. It was made as a 50 piece Limited Edition.
The case chosen for the watch is the Large size measuring 43.5mm x 31.5mm with just above 7mm in thickness in Stainless Steel. What’s also unique is the use of the emerald cabochon set into the crown.
The dial is emerald green sun-burst with applied Chinese numerals marking the 3, 6, 9 and 12.
On the back it’s engraved with a four-leaf clover filled with green enamel lacquer with the individual number and the name of the club, “Les Flaneurs”. Underneath it is the Cal. 430MC ultra-thin hand-wound calibre, based on Piaget’s ultra-thin calibre 430P with 36 hours power reserve.
