Minerva, a Villeret based watch manufacture established in the 19th century, that was known for great quality and reasonably priced timepiece based mostly on vintage calibre. In the early 2000s, under the ownership of Emilio Gnutti and direction of Demetrio Cabiddu, there was an ambition and goal to become a manufacture that produces the finest and highest quality timepieces. Unfortunately due to the economic crisis, Minerva was sold to the Richemont Group under the helm of Montblanc.
During the short period of the ownership Minerva produced some incredible timepieces including some time only piece, chronographs and even tourbillon.
This reference M162901 is a monopusher chronograph powered by the Minerva Cal. 16.29 based on the Cal. 17.29 first developed in the early 20th century for pocket watches.
It measures large at 47mm with 13.5mm thick profile in Stainless Steel. It is beautifully designed, with a concave bezel, sculpted lug and an arched officer style case back for comfort on the wrist. The chronograph pusher is integrated with the crown at 3.
It has a two tone silver dial with gold hour markers and blue applied 12 and 6 with a set of blued steel hands. It has a pulsation scale on the edge of the dial. The different contrast and surface finishing giving the watch a stunning visual. Just above 6 it is printed "Fait Main a Villeret" - proudly stating that was handmade in Villeret.
The Cal. 16-29 is hidden underneath the officer style case back. It is done in a very traditional and classical way. All parts of the movement are hand finished to the highest level. It beats at 18000bph with 50h power reserve.
