Introduced in 1999, the IWC Aquatimer GST Deep One was at the time IWC’s ultimate diver’s watch. It has a water resistance up to 2000 meters and what made it really impressive is that it was achieved with a considerably thin and compact case without any helium escape valve.
The case measures at 42.8mm in diameter with just under 15mm in thickness. The case is made of bead-blasted Titanium giving it a matte industrial look. It features a two-link integrated bracelet that has a quick release system that allows even an inexperienced user to remove and resize the bracelet with a simple tools provided.
Distinctly, the watch has three crowns. The crown at 2 is used to set the inner rotating bezel. The crown at 3 is used as the main crown to wind and set the date and time. And significantly the crown at 4 that is slightly larger then the other 2, it is used to reset the calibration of the depth hands to zero. It is also where the air pump provided to pressurize a Bourdon tube within the watch to test and calibrate its depth gauge.
The dial is black with highly legible white print and yellow accents. It has a small running second indicator at 6 and date window at 3. On the outside of the dial is the inner rotating bezel for dive timer and a depth indicator to 45 meter pointed by a big skeletonized arrow hands.
The Deep One is powered by the Cal. 8914 self-winding based on the fine and thin Jaeger LeCoultre Calibre 891.
