In the world of horology, Cartier is known as the King of Shapes. They have made many of the most elegant time-only pieces the world has ever seen.
The Tank Cintrée (Curved Tank) was first inducted In 1921. The case is curved to follow the curvature of the wearer’s wrist for ergonomic reason, and during that time it was unusually large for a wristwatch.
In 2021, Cartier introduced a 100th Anniversary version of the Tank Cintrée as a 150 piece Limited Edition. Interestingly it was released discreetly but yet it was all sold out in an instant.
The case is made almost identical to the original version made in 1921 but it is slimmer. It measures at 46.5mm in length by 23mm with 6.4mm on the thickest point. Contributing to its very slim profile is the case back that slides through the mid case and secured with screws on the side making the watch not water resistant.
The crown features a pointy sapphire cabochon a signature style in Cartier design.
The dial is also made faithful to the original. It has an ivory color with grained surface. It has the chemin-de-fer minute track with blued Breguet style hands and elongated Roman numerals. It also omits the “Swiss Made” print at 6 giving it a stronger vintage vibe to it.
This 100th Anniversary Edition Tank Cintrée is powered by the Cal. 9780MC Hand Wound, that is based on the JLC Cal. 849 ultra-thin calibre. It is just 1.85mm high with a short 36 hours power reserve.
