A. Lange & Sohne 403.031 Datograph Flyback RG

$0.00
sold out

Sold under Gross Margin Scheme

Launched in 1999, the Datograph was groundbreaking with its spectacular fully in-house hand-wound flyback chronograph movement, which at the time only one year earlier, Patek Philippe introduced the 5070 with a Lemania based movement. Ever since, the Datograph has not only become an icon but also a benchmark for a high-end hand-wound chronographs.

The first generation Datograph was produced from 1999 to 2011, and there are some different variants. Amongst these variants, one of the most desirable is this reference 403.031 in 18K Rose Gold with Black dial, that is known as the “Dufougraph”. It got its nickname after Philippe Dufour mentioned not only in one occasion, that the Datograph was the best chronograph ever made. And he, himself own this variant in Rose Gold with Black dial. This variant is also rare as it was only produced for a short 2 years period between 2003-2005.

The Datograph measures 39mm in diameter with 13mm thickness. And just as it is with other Rose Gold case lange, it has a polished case band as opposed to the brushed one. It has the two chronograph pushers at 2 and 4 as well as a quick set date pusher at 10.

The dial is very distinct and well balanced. The big date window is placed at 12 and the two white subdials are placed at 4 and 8 respectively. These 3 elements are balanced with the placement of the applied Roman numerals II, VI and X. All these are framed with a Tachymeter scale.

The movement is certainly the highlight of the Datograph, the Cal. L951.1 has a straight-forward traditionally constructed horizontal-clutch column-wheel chronograph mechanism but was done extraordinarily, it has a spectacular architecture with the finest level of finish in the industry.
