In order to attract younger audiences, Patek Philippe introduced the Aquanaut, a casual sports watch on rubber strap in 1997 only one year after they introduced the Annual Calendar - a new entry towards a calendar complication with a fraction of the price of the Perpetual Calendar. And the rest is history - the Aquanaut today has become one of the most iconic and desirable sports watch in the market.
The Aquanaut design was influenced by the Gerald Genta designed Nautilus. It measure 36mm wide with a slim 8.5mm profile in Stainless Steel. It has a 120m water resistance therefore it is suitable for a more active lifestyle. And it is paired with a “tropical” rubber strap with “grenade” motif.
The dial is black “grenade” motif with applied Arabic numeral indexes and tritium hour markers. And it has a useful date window at 3.
What’s interesting especially with the reference 5060 is that the buckle is signed “Patek Philippe - Nautilus” as the initially the idea was to integrate the Aquanaut to be a part of the Nautilus line up.
Powering the 5060 is Patek Philippe’s Cal. 330 S C Self-winding movement hidden beneath the solid steel case back.
