Tourbillon, a French word for “whirlwind”, is a mechanical complication created with the purpose to counter the gravitational effect on the smaller components in a watch’s escapement by putting the balance wheel and escapement into a rotating cage. It was invented in 1795 by none other than Abraham Louis Breguet, the founder of Breguet.

Breguet was reborn in the 1970s under the Chaumet brothers. Together with their master watchmaker, Daniel Roth, they revived the manufacture by implementing complications with many fine details of Breguet timepieces from their archives.

The first Breguet Tourbillon, the ref. 3350, was introduced in 1988, developed by Daniel Roth and Francois Bodet during their time at Breguet. It was subsequently replaced by the ref. 3357 with minor cosmetic updates.

The case measures at 35mm in 18K White Gold. And just like other Breguet timepieces, it has many charming details such as the coin edge case band, engine turned guilloche dial and the distinctive blued Breguet hands.

The watch is powered by the Cal. 558T Hand Wound that was based on the Lemania 397 movement that was developed by Daniel Roth towards the end of his stint at Breguet before he started his own manufacture.
