The Pasha was conceived in the 1930s by Louis Cartier for The Pasha of Marrakesh as a one of a kind watch that has a crown protector device to ensure its water resistance. And in the 1980s with the help of Gerald Genta, Cartier introduced the Pasha publicly for the first time. It is a round watch with cabochon topped screw down cap attached to the case with a retaining chain and Vendome lugs.
In the 1990s to the early 2000s, Cartier introduced their CPCP (Collection Privée Cartier Paris) line, where it features not only the historical designs but also combined with complicated mechanical movements. This Jour et Nuit was made at the end of the 1990s with the help of an independent watchmaker, also a co-founder of the AHCI, Svend Andersen.
The case measures at 38mm in diameter with 10mm in 18K White Gold. It has a black cabochon top crown attached to the case with the retaining chain.
It is paired with a highly unusual dial especially for Cartier. It has a hand turned guilloche dial in salmon color. On the top half of the dial it has two arcs for the hour marker. The top arc indicates 6 to 18 and the smaller arc underneath indicates 18 to 6. It has a blued two sided hand in the center the shorter one has a pointer with a moon and the longer one has a pointer with a sun. These pointer jumps every hour and it indicates the time with the day/night pointing to the hour marker. At the bottom there’s a sub dial indicating the minute.
It is powered by the Cal. 115 self-winding movement decorated by the intertwined C logo that can be seen underneath the sapphire crystal display back.
