The Omega Speedmaster Alaska Project was a secret initiative to create the ultimate space-ready watch for NASA designed to withstand extreme temperature fluctuations on the moon. In 2008 Omega introduced a reissue of the Alaska Project made as a 1970 piece limited edition.

It has the regular 42mm Stainless Steel case with 14mm thickness with Hesalite crystal with stainless steel bracelet. It also comes with white velcro/leather NATO style strap. As a tribute to the original Alaska Project this reissue also features a removable red anodized aluminum outer case “heat shield”.

The dial is matte white to designed to reflect solar heat and it features two distinct “rocket” or “landing pod” shape chronograph hour and minute hand with a red chronograph second hand.

It is powered by the Cal. 1861 hand-wound chronograph movement based on the Cal. 861 movement that has been used for the Speedmaster models since 1968.
