Introduced in 2023, the 1908 is Rolex’s most serious take on dress watch in a long period of time. The name 1908 itself is derived from the year Hans Wilsdorf established Rolex. A move that has completely changed the landscape and history of watchmaking with his quest for precise and reliable wristwatch.
This example is the Platinum version that was released in 2024. The case measures at 39mm in diameter with slim 9.5mm profile. It retains Rolex’s iconic fluted bezel on the front and fluted case back.
The dial on the Platinum version is finished in rice-grain motif guilloche that is done with traditional engine turning machine in ice blue color, a color exclusive to Platinum case Rolex. It has applied indexes and 12, 3 and 9 numerals. It also features a small seconds display at six, something that Rolex hasn’t done in many decades.
The 1908 is powered by the Cal. 7140. A new calibre that is thinner than most of the competitors at only just over 4mm. This is due to the flat silicon hairspring known as Syloxi. Each movement is chronometer-certified by COSC before being cased. It is also neatly and precisely finished and can be admired through the display caseback.
