Patek Philippe introduced the original Nautilus “Jumbo” reference 3700 in 1976, designed by the legendary Gerald Genta. The design was inspired by a ship’s porthole with “ears” on the sides. Together with the Royal Oak, they pioneered the genre for luxury steel sports watch. In 2005, Patek Philippe introduced the reference 3712/1A. It was the very first Nautilus that features multiple complications with its power reserve and moon phase indicator.
The 5712/1A is a successor of the 3712/1A, it was introduced in 2006, only less than a year after the 3712/1A to commemorate Nautilus’ 30th Anniversary, together with the 5711/1A and the 5980/1A.
It measures at 40mm with a slim 8.5mm profile in Stainless Steel, iconic with the rounded octagonal shape bezel with the porthole inspired design and integrated Stainless Steel bracelet.
The dial has a charming asymmetrical layout with horizontally embossed gradient blue dial with power reserve indicator at 10 and moon phase indicator with date and sub second dial at the bottom half of the dial.
Powering the 5712/1A is the Cal. 240 PS IRM C LU self-winding movement with micro-rotor with an ultra thin profile at just under 4mm, this contributes to the thinness of the case.
