In 2006, Richemont acquired the Minerva manufacture and integrated it into Montblanc. And over the year Montblanc have released a number of spectacular watches under the Villeret/1858 line powered by Minerva’s movement.
Paying tribute to Minerva’s vintage chronograph, Montblanc introduced the Montblanc 1858 Chronograph Tachymeter in 2015 inspired by vintage Pilot’s watch chronograph from the 1930s.
The case is large at 44mm in diameter with 13mm thickness in 18K Rose Gold. It has a combination of mirror and brushed finish throughout the case and bezel. It is paired with a large onion crown with an integrated chronograph pusher with Montblanc logo on it.
It has a matte black dial with luminous Arabic numeral with vintage inspired Montblanc logo at 12 paired with a set of luminous filled hands.
Powering the watch is the Cal. MB16.29 based on the historic Minerva 16 ligne pocket watch movement that was first created in 1929. The architecture and finish of the movement is stunning to say the least. It’s a slow beat movement that vibrating at 18000 mph with 50 hours power reserve.
