The Elegante was first introduced by FP Journe in 2014 as a fuss-free sporty ladies watch. It was a totally unexpected move by the independent manufacture that’s so renowned for their ingenuity with mechanical movements. It somehow gained enough popularity that two years later they decided to release a larger size intended for men.
This Elegante is the larger version with 48mm length and 40mm width. The case is flat tortue shaped with a slim 7.9mm profile. This version has a Titanium case with Titalyt treatment giving it a significant harder and more scratch resistant surface making it ideal for everyday wear.
The entire dial is white and covered with Super Luminova making it highly legible even in the dark. It has a sub second dial at 6 and a tiny window at 4 showing the oscillating weight that works as the motion detector.
The Elegante has a revolutionary electro-mechanical movement with an incredible 8 to 18 years autonomy. It took them 8 years to fully develop this movement. Part of the reason it has a very long autonomy is the clever feature that put the watch to sleep when the watch is still when it’s not in motion for 30 minutes. During this sleep mode all the mechanical parts stop but the microprocessor continues to keep time. And when it senses movement from the oscillating weight visible on the dial, the hands automatically go back to the current time, taking the shortest path.
On top of these clever features, the Elegante has its bridges and plates made out of gold just as it is with other mechanical FP Journe giving it an attractive look at the back.
