The Freak is the brainchild of the late Rolf Schnyder and Dr. Ludwig Oechslin. It is a watch with 7-day Tourbillon Carrousel, without hands, dial or crown. And not only that for the first time it has a new silicon escapement that does not need any lubrication. It was ultimately the first “hyperwatch” that changed the scene of Haute Horlogerie.
The Freak Vision was introduced in 2018, one year after Ulysse Nardin showcased the Freak InnoVision 2 concept watch with many innovations including the friction-free Dual Constant Escapement and the Grinder automatic winding system.
The time is still indicated by the flying carrousel movement rotating around its axis. And it now has a highly modernized 3D carved bridges inspired by a boat’s hull. It now features Anchor Escapement that consists of a circular silicon frame that holds the lever in place and it incorporates a new light weight and high performance balance wheel.
The case has a more modern design with a 45mm diameter in Platinum with Titanium bezel fitted with blue rubber insert. Just as its predecessor, winding can be done by turning the case back And the time is set simply by turning the bezel.
The Cal. UN-205 notably features the Ulysse Nardin Grinder Automatic Winding System that is claimed to be twice as efficient as its conventional winding system.
