Alain Silberstein, an architect turned watch designer, created his first watch in the late 1980s, the Krono Bauhaus. It was very different to anything ordinary during the time. He was one of the pioneer in the independent watchmaking scene.
As the name suggests, it follows the Bauhaus aesthetic and has some playful and colorful design elements. The design element becomes so recognizable and iconic that even though he no longer produces his own watch, he is still collaborating with some major name in the watch industry to create some special limited edition that features his design element.
The Alain Silberstein Tourbillon Volant was introduced in the early 2000s as a 200 piece limited edition. It has a cylindrical case with round profile straight lugs that measures 40mm in diameter and 11mm thickness.
It is open-worked exposing the gears and parts of the movement on the dial side, as well as the date indicator at 12 and a flying tourbillon at 6.
The watch is powered by the Cal. ASC 1.1 with a flying tourbillon that features a hacking second and double barrel giving it a 72 hour power reserve.
