In the late 1970s, in the midst of the quartz crisis, when watch manufactures were staying away from complicated timepieces, Audemars Piguet released the ref. 5548, an ultra thin Perpetual Calendar wristwatch. At the time, the only notable competitor was Patek Philippe’s 3448.

At the time it was a significant horological innovation with the world’s thinnest self-winding perpetual calendar movement, powered by the renowned Cal. 2120/2800 with an ultra slim profile of 3.95mm height.

The 5548 was succeeded by the ref. 25657 with improvement on the case construction and minor aesthetic on the dial most notably with its sunken sub-dials.

This is a great example of the classic combination of the Audemars Piguet 25657 Perpetual Calendar with an 18K yellow gold case and white dial.
