Panerai, a brand strongly associated to military watches, renowned for its oversized and distinctive case design and its luminous dials. The Radiomir that was originated in the 1930s, has a cushion shaped case with wire lugs.
In the early 2000s, Panerai introduced several Radiomir model in precious metals fitted with vintage movements. The PAM147 is one of the more unusual example, with only 35 pieces ever made, with a vintage Venus Cal. 185 Split Second Chronograph movement.
This movement was originated in the 1940s and was used notably in Breitling Duograph. Sometime in the 1990s, a cache of New-Old-Stock Venus split-seconds movement was found and was used by different manufactures including Girard-Perregaux, Ulysse Nardin, Parmigiani and Panerai to creat a small series of watches with the calibre.
The PAM147 has a classic black dial with three-register chronograph counter. The case is 42mm wide and 16mm thick to accommodate the complex movement. It has a large crown with an integrated pusher for the split-seconds activation.
The Venus Cal. 185 can be seen through the display case back, it has a stunning architecture with a utilitarian finish.
