Launched in 1993, the Ref. 5050 is Patek Philippe first perpetual calendar wristwatch featuring retrograde date made in series. It was made in several different variation until it was discontinued in 2002. However up until about 2015, there were some special pieces that was made with special dial configuration.
This very piece is one of them. Cased in 18K Yellow Gold with a very good looking black dial and applied Breguet numerals. There has never been any confirmation of how many pieces were made but it is believed that there’s only a handful of them has ever been in the market publicly.
The 5050 has a very minimalistic dial display with retrograde date indicator between 8-4, three window indicating the date at 9, leap year at 12 and month at 3, as well as the moon phase indicator at 6. And unlike other Patek Philippe Perpetual Calendar, it has a central sweep second hand.
