Sarpaneva was founded in 2003 by a Finnish watchmaker, Stepan Sarpaneva. His work is distinct with its playful yet masculine design and his characterful depiction of the moon that has a frowning/angry human face.
In 2020, Sarpaneva through his S.U.F Helsinki label created a watch to celebrate the 75th anniversary of Moomin, a Finnish comic created by Tove Jansson. With a three-layer dial painted in multiple shade of Super-Luminova.
A year later, Sarpaneva x Moomin was conceived. With a more distinct case design, higher quality decoration and finish on the case, dial and movement.
The dial design is the same as the one on the earlier SUF version, however it has a hand-finished circular hour markers as well as its handcrafted spear shaped hands.
The signature Sarpenva case in 42mm has a distinct notches in the bezel, profile and case back, and its crown at 4 o’clock.
It is powered by a modified Soprod A10 automatic movement with the Angry Moon face on its rotor.
The Sarpaneva x Moomin is made as a 25 piece limited edition each with four different choice of hand colours.
